Overview

This workshop is designed to provide guidance and support to social care nursing staff in adult social care on the role of the preceptor and its function in supporting preceptees within your organisation.

Nursing preceptorship is a structured period of support and development for newly registered nurses and nursing associates as they transition into their professional roles. It uses the existing knowledge and skills of your experienced nursing staff who can provide preceptorship leadership and act as preceptors.

Designed to smooth the transition into the workforce, promote safe, effective, and confident practice and foster a sense of belonging and professional identity.  Newly qualified nursing staff are called ‘preceptees’ and are supported by more experienced nursing staff who act as ‘preceptors’.

What to expect?

In this interactive session you will engage in helpful discussions and activities that will give you the confidence you need to successfully act as a preceptor for preceptees in your organisation.

You will be given access to a range of resources enabling you to assess the learning needs of your preceptee.

You will be able to consider how you can help preceptees to develop their reflective ability through providing regular meetings and guidance.

You will also consider what ongoing support you will need in your role and be able to network with other new to role preceptors.

You will receive a certificate of attendance.

By the end of the session attendees will be able to:

  • Define the role of a preceptor in supporting new preceptees
  • Access and utilise various resources that will support in preceptor role
  • Identify further CPD opportunities to develop your skills further

By attending this session, you will be able to connect with others and receive ongoing information and preceptorship guidance and opportunities.
